About the Design

William James, a rich and influential surveyor and land agent, was inspired by the development of the steam locomotive to suggest a national network of railways. He was responsible for proposing a number of projects that later came to fruition, and he is credited with carrying out a survey of the Liverpool and Manchester Railway. To many historians he has been given the title of the “Father of the Railway”

These coins feature a selection of Famous Express Trains from around the world along with an engraved heading and the metal quality and weight of the coin.

Obverse Design

The obverse of the coin features the Raphael Maklouf effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, sovereign of the Commonwealth and denomination of Niue $2.

Limited Mintage

No more than 15,000 sets will be issued by New Zealand Mint.

Presentation

Each four-coin set comes in a magnificent replica train box. It’s packaged in a colourful outer packer, accompanied by a numbered certificate of Authenticity, which includes background information on each train class.
